What to Do If You Are Affected By Gender Violence
Gender violence includes domestic violence, harassment and staking, rape and sexual assult, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, honour-based abuse and trafficking.
Domestic violence could be a range of different types of abuse, from psychological abuse to physical and sexual abuse as well as financial abuse or a combination of the above. It is most commonly experienced by women and carried out by men, however it can also happen in same sex relationships, and men can experience domestic violence.
If you feel that you have been affected by any of the above, you have a number of places to turn. Firstly, you could go to the police, you could temporarily leave home (or leave permanently), stay in your home and get the other person to leave or take legal action. Most kinds of domestic abuse are criminal offences and the police can arrest, caution or charge the perpetrator.
